Family Placement

Well Connected are thrilled to be working with our partners at the University of Plymouth Peninsula Medical School on an exciting new programme called Family Placement. The purpose is to recruit families to help medical students develop their knowledge of health and wellbeing.

We are inviting adults who have a long-term health condition and require the support of others to support their wellbeing (i.e a carer, family member or partner), to meet 2nd year medical students to share their health journey with them.

All we ask is that they are:

·         Able to meet with 2 medical students 3 times per academic year;

·         Willing for these meetings to take place in their home (during the day, term time only),

·         Live in Plymouth and the surrounding areas, and;

·         Are happy to be contacted occasionally by the Well Connected team

The Family Placement Programme will connect medical students with individuals with long term health conditions and carer support, to discuss their health journey over 3 visits to the individuals home. The aim of Family Placements is to help students develop their knowledge of health and wellbeing.

Dr Michael Philpott, Community Sub Dean, Peninsula Medical School (Faculty of Health) said this about the Programme;

"Here at Peninsula Medical School, we believe that engagement with individuals living with long-term health conditions is essential for developing compassionate and patient-centred healthcare professionals.  The Family Placement Programme is an exciting and invaluable opportunity for our students to gain insights that textbooks and lectures simply can't provide."
