You Matter, We Care

Great Western Railway grant helps us to deliver miles of smiles!

We are delighted to have been awarded a grant from Great Western Railway which will enable us to provide wellbeing packs to vulnerable women in Plymouth.

Great Western Railway Community Manager Emma Morris said:

“We have a specific pot of money designed to support community and not-for-profit organisations. Well Connected’s project to improve oral health and wellbeing among vulnerable adults really stood out and we are pleased to allocate this funding as part of our agreement with the Department for Transport.”

Working alongside colleagues from the Soup Run, we will be out and about talking and listening to the women as they help us to create packs which are relevant and meaningful, contents of the packs will include oral health resources, personal hygiene products as well as safety items.

The women have helped us to design a collection of signposting cards which provide words of encouragement, messages of positive affirmation as well as information about accessing services and organisations.

The You Matter, We Care initiative is a great example of how we use our expertise in community engagement to help and support people who need it the most. We are truly excited about starting the project as it underpins the outreach work which we have been involved in for many years.

Norma Fry from Plymouth Soup Run said; “This is such an amazing project; I am delighted that Well Connected is working with our team to provide some of the basic things in life which so many of us take for granted. The women will really benefit from receiving the pack, the signposting and guidance information provides additional support too. The most important element of the whole project is the care, consideration and respect which the Well Connected team have shown towards us and the women. Thank you.”

We would like to thank our friends and colleagues at Dentaid who have donated toothbrushes and toothpaste to support the project; Andy Evans CEO said, “I am particularly delighted to be able to help Wendy and the Well Connected team by providing the brushes and paste for this very worthwhile project. We work tirelessly to increase access to dental care and improve oral health in the UK and overseas; its great that we are able to help other like-minded charities do the same.”

Our Strategic Lead for Community Engagement, Wendy Smith MBE, said; “I am so proud that our relationship with the GWR team in Plymouth has led to this brilliant outcome. Chris Reader, Senior Guards Manager and Jo Harvey Guard Manager, have always been so supportive, helpful and encouraging, it is thanks to them that we were asked to apply for the GWR community funding. We love working in genuine and authentic partnership with our community colleagues and it’s a privilege and pleasure to be working with Norma and her team as we deliver the You Matter, We Care initiative.”
