Project:
Experts By Experience

Creating opportunities to develop and inform Inter Professional Learning within the curriculum for the health professionals of the future. The Experts by Experience group comprises people with a range of clinical conditions, who share their knowledge and experiences of health and social care services.

We are proud to have been invited by PIHC to work alongside them as they explore new approaches to deliver teaching and learning sessions which are relevant and meaningful for students studying in the Faculty of Health.

Our expertise and connections have enabled us to establish an ‘Expert by Experience’ group, comprising people who have been diagnosed with a clinical condition. Their understanding and knowledge of their own condition makes them the perfect expert to meet with academics, researchers and programme leads to share their own experiences of health and social care services. Currently the people on the group represent obesity, diabetes, IBS, physical disabilities, renal failure and chronic fatigue syndrome.

We facilitate the discussions with colleagues from University of Plymouth which helps to  inform, and influence the inter professional education delivered across the Faculty of Health. The group is also well placed to add value to research projects and Public and Patient Involvement initiatives, adding new voices which inform the design and delivery of education, resources and teaching materials.

Our experience also helps us to propose new approaches to evaluation methods which better reflect the needs of real people in real places. The group meets on a regularly and we stay connected in between meetings using our newsletters and social media platforms.

“It has been great to work with Well Connected. They brought together a brilliant group of people whose personal experiences will enable us to develop unique opportunities for our students. Connecting with communities in this trusted and authentic way is invaluable. We could not have done it without them.”
